February 9: PUSH's Alternative to the 10 Commandments
PUSH developed an alternative set of ethical principles and guidelines that might form a better moral code for the modern world than the 10 Commandments:
1. No slavery, physical or mental.
2. Do not take any ideas for granted.
3. Do not restrain another's right to free speech.
4. Reciprocate good deeds (not so much the bad ones).
5. Treat everyone equally regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation--judge people based on their actions rather than arbitrary birth characteristics.
6. Value the world on a timescale greater than your own life.
7. You'd better live with people of another culture twice in your life, at least (learn from and expose yourself to other cultures).
8. No capital punishment for non-violent crimes.
9. It is better to withhold forming/declaring an uninformed decision.
10. No rape.
